"Just Waiting" A Recount of the Assault Course. By Nathan Scott
"The day was empty, cold and devoid of any warmth, nothing could break its freezing grip not even the sun. The weak rays of sun light faded into oblivion before they reached us. Even the silence was cold, only broken by distant voices and half-hearted bird calls.
Time is none existent; the past few hours have become a blur of sit-ups, push-ups and star jumps in a futile attempt to warm up our numb bodies. Every step is excruciating as sharp stones dig deeper into the soft underside of my feet.
The mud doesn’t help either. It’s thick and everywhere in your nostrils, in your mouth and under your eyelids, anywhere it can find. It’s like a swarm of insects crawling into you.
But the worst thing is the cold, not only is it around you it is inside you, waiting, reluctant to leave. Just waiting."
