Powhiri

The happenings of week 3

We began our week with a great fun Kiwi Golf session. We learnt heaps, improved quickly and had a good run around. On Friday we'll be welcoming the year 7's with the Powhiri so each day we've been getting together with the other year 8's to get our singing, haka, karanga and whai korero up to scratch. Today we have a guest speaker coming in to inspire us for the triathlon...it's a secret at this stage so come back soon to hear all about it. Sports are starting up, the class has people playing touch, futsal and waterpolo so far, with more to come! Another fun and busy week with Room 9 at Balmac!

Taking to the water!

Today Room 9 students joined with Room 4 and headed for our first swimming session at Moana Pool. We enjoyed some time at the wave pool and a great lesson from Swimsation. With the triathlon coming up we'll be working hard to swim like fish!

Game on!

Term 1 is under way and what a positive, keen and kind group of students we're fortunate to have in Room 9. We've started getting to know each other and learning of the many skills and talents that are among us. Wednesday afternoon had us join up with Room 4 & 14 for a syndicate game of stopball and a bit of getting to know who is in some of the other classes. It was fantastic to see positive attitudes and such great energy in the game of stopball that we played, great stuff!I'm sure we'll all keep it up!

Whakatauki

This week we've been discussing how we're going to live together as a classroom community in 2012. To kick this off we've chatted about what the following proverb means and how we can live it out. It's been great to see everyone really going out of their way to be kind, to help out others and to share their belongings, their knowledge and their skills. Great stuff!
